Things are moving fast now spring is springing.

Its been a fantastic month for Great Bear Bushcraft.

  • There have been parties in the Quarry at West Town Farm that were really enjoyed by all who took part, me included.
  • Special thanks must go to Bilbo, Jake and Will who have helped with the running of the parties at the Quarry.
  • I seem to be booking up quickly with birthday parties either at the Quarry or at Escot, but its always worth a try particularly as the evenings get longer
  • We had an Organic Arts trustees meeting to see what was happening in the Quarry and left with a simple but effective forestry plan for the site.
  • Mike Gardener who is a trustee for Organic Arts spent this morning pollarding and clearing in the Quarry. Thanks Mike
  • For all your Bushcraft and Forest Schools equipment needs contact Alan Bruford at Escot Education.
  • We have a group from the Ivy Project coming to clear, cut, chop, plant and drink tea in a couple of days.
  • I was up at West Town Farm this morning. It is looking beautiful at the moment with all the trees coming into bud.
  • Moonrise on Saturday 19th was truly spectacular.
  • Aren't Piglets Cute. Loads of new ones at the farm.
  • Have a look at the Organic Arts website

Tales from the woods

Hello, Happy Valentines day.
I've just launched the blog on Facebook, but I am still not sure why it doesn't come up on the Google search any ideas?

  • The loo seems Ok in principle so I am sourcing the timber I need 4, 8" diameter Douglas fir poles about 12' long and lots of wavy edged board so if you could check your woodsheds that would be great.
  • The handbook is still a work in progress. People keep offering me work but have spent a good day of enforced stay at home working on it, don't you just love writing policy documents.
  • As I said in my comments the weekend with the team was fantastic.
  • Rachel, Thank you so much for all the organising you have done. The sessions and me would not have happened if it was not for your hard work and enthusiasm.
  • We are providing the bushcraft training for the SW Area Woodcraft folk Meet on the 12th of March in the Forest of Dean that should be delightful.
  • Plans are afoot for the Bushcraft Village at Co-Camp in August.
  • I will be attending a Fieldcraft weekend with the ATC on the 1st weekend of March. I am really looking forward to it. This is a major area of development for GBB, I am already in negotiations with the RAF about offering self reliance courses, aimed at cadets and based around issue kit.
  • Half term next week "To the woods dear mother"
  • Read "The Tables Turned" by William Wordsworth. Thanks to Richard Steward for introducing me to it.
Busy busy busy, but enjoying every minute of it.

Hope you're all having fun too.

What's happening in the world of the Great Bear this week?

This is already looking like a good week. I am in a planning mood.

  • Its about time I started on the toilet. We are going to build a Treebog, if you are interested then look at the Living Woods Magazine for Jan/Feb 2011.
  • We are having the last weekend for the Woodcraft Folk Training the Trainers course. I have enjoyed working alongside these lovely people and this is just the start of lots of projects in the future.
  • I am planning the next 4 weekend course for Woodcraft leaders and these dates will be posted as soon as we know them.
  • The Handbook is nearing completion and depending on work and weather should be finished by the end of the week.
  • What courses do you want? Now's the time to make your suggestions.
  • Plans for the first of the Armageddon weekends is well underway. the first one is already booked up but we will be running another one at the end of September.
Have a good week any queries just contact me.
